There were several reports on the blogs yesterday that announced that Kokoity, President of the newly declared independent republic of South Ossetia had celebrated by publicly drinking 3 litres of wine (at one go). Neeka's Backlog actually has the video.
Kokoity was hardly democratically elected so we cannot blame them by saying the South Ossetians get the leaders they deserve. However, one can't help wondering how much more he will have to drink in one go when South Ossetia "volunteers" to join Russia.
I always found it hard to understand how previously democratic countries in Central Europe somehow after the Second World War managed to "invite the Soviet Union" to protect them. But now I see it is all too easy, with that sort of leader.
