I'm not a great reader of international newspapers when I am working abroad. I can get anything important to life in the Anglo-Saxon world on BBC World and everything important to Europe on Euronews. I find I am watching Euronews more and more these days as I am already bored to death by the coverage of the US primaries. I know I should care more, but I don't.
In Tbilisi, the guidebooks say that Prospero's Bookshop is the place to get foreign newspapers, so I went there in search of the Economist, which is the only paper source I read regularly and normally have a subscription. Not a paper in sight. It seems the post delivers so late that no one will buy them. Hmm.
I rang London to see how they thought they could deliver the Economist. They claim they deliver in bulk to the Tbilisi post office which then sends them out through the mail. We shall see. Our office has no mail boxes, but the security office at the entrance receives and delivers mail (gas and electricity bills anyway) to the individuals they recognise. Remains to be seen whether they recognise things addressed in the Roman alphabet.
So the Economist is sending a copy this week and next, and I will report if or when they arrive.
