We watched the funeral on TV in Ljubljana courtesy of Serb TV.
A drab and sad occasion, one of the last communist style funerals, without a priest, without close relatives but with all the party bigwigs. Of course we didn't know who they were, so far out of the picture they are now. Lots of red carnations or roses strewn in front of his coffin, and a special plaque in the garden.
It was hard to tell how many people were actually there. Obviously the "garden" didn't hold "thousands" so it was hard to tell how many were there, or how many watched it on television, even out of curiosity like us. But the reports were only of thousands rather than tens of thousands, so clearly not very many, and rather old people at that.
In the end it seems the Serb government managed everything calmly, so there were no successful provocations and everyone can now go on rebuilding their lives.
But the past won't go away until the Serbs face up to it all.
